Copilot has long been helping users analyze data in Excel spreadsheets, summarize lengthy emails in Outlook, and much more. If you’ve ever tried Copilot yourself, you’ve seen how much it can speed up and simplify your everyday tasks.

Copilot Cowork is the natural next step in that story. With Copilot Cowork, Copilot no longer just answers questions, it becomes a tool for getting actual work done. Instead of responding to individual queries, it understands what you want to accomplish, turns that intent into an action plan, works through the necessary steps in the background on its own, and brings you in at key moments so you stay in control at all times.

What is Copilot Cowork, and what does it look like in practice?

Copilot Cowork is a new feature for enterprise users within Microsoft 365 Copilot that lets you delegate more complex, multi-step tasks across the Microsoft 365 environment, not just generate content within a single app.

Instead of asking Copilot to draft an email, summarize a meeting, or create a PowerPoint slide, you can now tackle more complex tasks: ask it to prepare you for a client meeting, clear up your calendar, or build a product launch plan.

Cleaning up your calendar, rescheduling meetings, and freeing up focus time

For most people, the start of the workweek means an overloaded calendar and too little time to focus on what matters. Cowork steps in by reviewing your Outlook schedule, asking about your priorities, and suggesting changes. Once you confirm, Cowork accepts, declines, or reschedules meetings and adds blocks of focused work time. The result: more time to dedicate to the most important tasks that require your full attention.

Prepare for meetings and align your team

If you frequently have client meetings, you know they can sometimes eat up more than half your working day. Cowork takes that work off your plate from start to finish, gathering relevant information from emails, meetings, and files, blocking time on your calendar for preparation, and generating a document with key information, analyses, and a presentation ready to show the client. Everything is saved in Microsoft 365 so your team can refine the materials as needed.

Streamlined company research

Thorough research takes a lot of time. Cowork does it for you. It searches internal and online sources, collects financial reports, analyst commentary, and relevant news, then organizes everything and cites the sources. You get a concise overview ready to send by email, a detailed research document with analysis, and an Excel spreadsheet with clearly labeled data.

Build a product launch plan

When you’re launching a new product, things move at lightning speed, especially when market conditions shift. Cowork builds a competitive analysis in Excel, creates a document focused on your product’s advantages over the competition, and generates a pitch deck, but that’s not all. It also defines concrete next steps, specifying who is responsible for what and by when. This isn’t just a strategy on paper; it’s a plan ready for immediate execution. In the end, you have all the materials in one place, ready for your team to share and update as the launch progresses.

Copilot Cowork is currently being tested with a limited number of users and is expected to become more widely available through the Frontier program by the end of March 2026.
